Yogyakarta, May 19, 2024 – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Leadership School and Administration Workshop for Student Organizations with the theme “New Paradigm of Student Organizations at Universitas Gadjah Mada”. This activity took place on May 18th and 19th, 2024, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM and Multimedia Room 1 of the UGM Main Office. Attended by more than 200 participants consisting of chairmen, vice chairmen / representatives, secretaries, and treasurers of student organizations at the university level and faculty level (student activity units, student communities, and faculty student executive boards), this activity aims to strengthen the role and capacity of student organization managers in leading and facing future challenges.
The event was started with remarks and hopes for student organizations to always support achievements and reputation and contribute positively to national development by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si. To realize these expectations, the speakers provided material related to UGM’s strategic plan regarding student affairs and the direction of student organization development, governance of student organization development, organizational management, student organization branding and publication, event management and sponsorship, student activity procedures, innovation, creativity, and curriculum preparation, internal quality audit of student organizations, information technology services and information systems, correspondence and official manuscripts, and student organization administration.
The participants enthusiastically followed all the materials and discussion sessions. They gained a lot of new knowledge and insights that can be applied to develop their respective organizations. Arju Ridho Maulana, the manager of Yacaranda Community, revealed that having this event increased the capabilities of student organization managers.
“The lessons are really amazing, can be understood and there are many useful takeaways. Furthermore, I will implement it in my own organization. It’s also great to get to know wonderful people, namely the leaders of student organizations in UGM, we can learn from each other and exchange ideas for us to implement together.” he said.
This year’s Leadership School and Administration Workshop for UGM Student Organizations is one of UGM’s commitments in supporting the development of student organizations. UGM continues to strive to support the student organization management so that it will always be inclusive, cultured, independent, and sustainable.

UGM Diving Student Activity Unit, also known as Gadjah Mada Diving Society, has just finished Open Water Training for their new members from May 2 to 5, 2024 in Pasir Putih, Situbondo. This activity was attended by 54 members of the Gadjah Mada Diving Society and accompanied by 6 diving instructors. Open Water Training is an advanced diving training activity on the open seas, conducted after completing 7 times of pool skills training and tryouts. This activity is carried out by prospective members of the Gadjah Mada Diving Society in order to fulfill the requirements to obtain A1 ISSA (Indonesian Subaquatic Sport Association) Diving Certification and be inaugurated as a new member of Gadjah Mada Diving Society. ISSA license is an international diving license affiliated with the world diving federation, Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques (CMAS), in conducting research and certification for divers. There are 7 types of licenses issued by POSSI, namely A1 (Open Water Scuba Diver), A2 (Advanced Scuba Diver), A3 (Rescue Scuba Diver), A4 (Master Scuba Diver), and Dive Instructor Certification.
Reactics Chem-E-Car UGM, a team from Universitas Gadjah Mada, has achieved remarkable success in the international arena of the Chem-E-Car competition. The team secured the second place in the VDI ChemCar Competition, organized by kjVI VDI Germany 2023, which took place in CityCube, Berlin, from September 17-19, 2023.
The Reactics Chem-E-Car UGM team, led by Muhammad Hasbi Aminudin from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, consisted of four members: Armando Rizky Nugroho (Department of Computer Science and Electronics), Mikael Bagastama Jatinitiraga (Department of Chemical Engineering), Muhammad Akbar Ariffandi (Department of Chemical Engineering), and Muhammad Husein Hartanto (Department of Mechanical Engineering). With the assistance of their manager, Novia Safitri (Department of Chemical Engineering), the team began their preparations in late March 2023 by designing an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient chemical-based vehicle.
The Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI) is an annual student competition in robotics design and engineering fields participated by students at tertiary institutions in the Republic of Indonesia, from various ministries/institutions or government agencies, which are recorded on the Higher Education Database. KRI is organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI) National Achievements Center (Puspresnas) Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia.
This prestigious national-level competition is going to be held at the University of Semarang from 21 to 26 June 2023. The steps taken to reach the National KRI were long. Previously, the team had carried out proposal selection, field infrastructure checking and testing selection, robot preparation, camera placement and team lighting, regional level selection, and finally the current national-level Indonesian Robot Contest participation.
