The Universitas Gadjah Mada Sports and Arts Week (Porsenigama) 2026 was officially opened on Friday, October 17, 2026, at GOR Nusantara UGM, marking the start of the largest sports and arts event on campus, which will run through November 27, 2026. Carrying the theme “Stepping Forward Together to Reach Our Shared Pride”, Porsenigama 2026 involves 4,556 students comprising 3,967 athletes and 589 artists from 20 faculty and school contingents within UGM. The competition spans 23 sports disciplines and 14 arts categories, making Porsenigama 2026 the most comprehensive platform for celebrating and measuring the full breadth of UGM student potential. The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, S.Sos., M.Si., alongside the Chair of the Student Activity Unit Communication Forum, Muhammad Arief Maulana, and the General Coordinator of Porsenigama 2026, Jibril Alifsin Jusril Raditya.

The opening ceremony unfolded as a series of memorable and symbolically charged moments. Attention was first drawn to a collaborative mini drama performance that brought together the creativity of UGM students from diverse backgrounds onto a single shared stage. The Gadjah Mada Trophy was then handed back by the Faculty of Engineering of UGM, the reigning overall champion from the previous Porsenigama edition, before the atmosphere grew even more vibrant with the procession of athlete delegations from all participating faculties and schools. The ceremony reached its most symbolic moment at the close, when athletes collectively recited the athlete’s oath and signed the integrity pact, a shared pledge to uphold the values of sportsmanship, fair play, and solidarity throughout the competition.

Dr. Arie Sujito delivered a message that framed Porsenigama not simply as an arena for testing physical capability, but as a space for shaping character and nurturing human values. “I believe this is not only about tempering ourselves physically more than that, we are practicing the building of sportsmanship. We practice respecting the rules of the game, not injuring our opponents but treating them as our partners in competition, so that whatever victory we achieve, even if it comes in the form of a trophy, is earned through elegant means. Not by creating terrorizing practices, but by motivating athletes competing on the field, whether in arts or sports, to excel while being supported by humanistic attitudes,” he said.

Porsenigama 2026 is not merely an arena for competition, it is a stage where thousands of UGM students are invited to find meaning in every step of the journey and the shared experience of striving together. The value being cultivated is the understanding that growing alongside one another, honoring each other, and sustaining a collective spirit are achievements no less significant than anything recorded in a final score. With hundreds of matches and performances set to take place over the course of more than a month, Porsenigama 2026 is hoped to leave a lasting impression not only on the scoreboard, but within each student who takes part in it.
