UGM’s Badminton Student Club made its presence felt on home ground at the UGM Cup 2026, a national-level badminton championship that brought together athletes from universities and senior high schools and vocational schools from various regions across Indonesia. The championship, held from August 9 to 15, 2026, serves as one of UGM’s Badminton Student Club’s annual flagship events, designed as a platform for students and school athletes to maximize their potential, ignite their competitive and achieving spirit, and provide a means to put that spirit into practice within a healthy competitive environment. In this nationally attended event, UGM placed one of its own athletes on the podium through Kia Nur Padilah, a student from the Electrical Engineering program, who claimed 3rd place in the University Men’s Singles category.
The podium finish achieved by Kia Nur Padilah in the University Men’s Singles category is a commendable achievement, given that the category brought together the finest players from universities across the country. Competing on home ground with the added weight of spectator support and high expectations, Kia delivered a performance that was both maximally competitive and consistent throughout the duration of the championship. This result also affirms that UGM’s Badminton Student Club is not only capable of organizing a high-quality national-level championship, but is equally capable of producing athletes who can hold their own at the national level.
Kia Nur Padilah expressed his gratitude for the achievement while also conveying his commitment to continue improving in future competitions. “First of all, I feel happy and grateful to have won and to have been able to play to my maximum, but I feel there is still room for improvement heading into the next championship. I am very grateful to my coach, the officials, and my teammates who gave me their support throughout the event,” he said.
UGM Cup 2026 was more than a competition, it was a space where young athletes from diverse backgrounds came together to sharpen their skills and strengthen the spirit of sportsmanship. As both organizer and participant, UGM’s Badminton Student Club demonstrated that these dual roles can be carried out with professionalism and dedication.
