Four teams from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) delivered an impressive collective performance at Geophysics Day 4.0, organized by the Geophysical Engineering Student Association (HMTGF) of Universitas Pertamina and held on May 4, 2026. Students representing the Geophysics and Geographic Information Systems programs claimed awards across two competition categories: the Hackathon Competition and the Design Survey Competition. The achievements of these four teams affirm the quality and competitiveness of UGM students in the fields of earth sciences and geoscience technology at the national level. All delegation members came from UGM’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) and Vocational School, reflecting a strong cross-program synergy in facing the competition.
In the Hackathon Competition, UGM effectively dominated the podium. Team Gisformer, comprising Zulfatah Ahmad Khoiruddin, Hardika Ahmad Tegar Prakoso, and Norman Addie Widjaya, delivered a standout performance and claimed first place, emerging as the best team in the category. Meanwhile, Team Gugugaga, consisting of Flavian Vindraya Tantra, Luh Eka Apriliani Putri, and Fauzan Resky Abdulloh from the Faculty of MIPA, also made the podium with a third-place finish. The simultaneous podium presence of two UGM teams in the Hackathon category demonstrates the students’ ability to think creatively, respond quickly, and develop sound technical solutions under time-pressured conditions.
In the Design Survey Competition, the UGM contingent was equally competitive, securing two awards through two separate teams. Team Pejuang TA, made up of Sekar Ayu Wahyu Kusumaningtyas, Sinta Rahmadhilah, and Rahma Alifia Nurrekhan, claimed second place, showcasing a well-structured and technically rigorous approach to geophysical survey design. UGM’s fourth team, “Kata Pak Nukman Harus Semangat”, comprising Nadia Maharani, Salwa Hayati, and Ekasatria Ramafian from the Faculty of MIPA, also earned recognition by receiving the Favorite Poster award, presented to the team whose poster was judged to be the most compelling in terms of visual quality and clarity of ideas among all participants.
The success of all four UGM teams at a single competition reflects the academic maturity and applied competencies that students have developed through their studies on campus. The two competition categories is Hackathon and Design Survey, each demand a distinct set of skills, yet both place a premium on analytical ability, creativity, and effective teamwork. The fact that UGM secured awards from all four teams it fielded in one event is a remarkable and well-deserved achievement. It further reinforces UGM’s standing as a university that consistently produces exceptional talent in the fields of geoscience and earth science technology.
The achievements of UGM’s delegation at Geophysics Day 4.0 are hoped to inspire and motivate fellow students to continue actively honing their skills beyond the classroom through competitions and scientific events. Participation in such competitions not only provides recognition of academic competence, but also serves as a valuable learning environment for building confidence, presentation skills, and a collaborative spirit. With sustained enthusiasm and commitment, it is hoped that UGM’s delegation will continue to participate and excel in national and international geoscience competitions in the years ahead.
