The Student Activity Unit of Pencak Silat Perisai Diri Universitas Gadjah Mada has successfully held the national championship Perisai Diri Gadjah Mada Championship 2024 (PGC 2024). This prestigious event took place at GOR Pancasila UGM from December 12-14, 2024 and brought together high school martial arts athletes from all over Indonesia.
This national championship is one of the major initiatives based on the hopes of the UGM Pencak Silat UKM coach to create a space for young athletes to showcase their talents. With the spirit of developing the younger generation in the world of pencak silat, PGC 2024 is a strategic means to hone skills and establish relationships between young athletes.
Anindya Rizky Ramadhani, Chairperson of PGC 2024, stated that PGC 2024 is not only a competition event, but also an effort to provide more benefits for the participants. The certificate obtained from this championship is expected to be an added value for athletes who are interested in applying to UGM through the Search for Excellent Achievement (PBUB) pathway. Thus, PGC 2024 not only encourages the spirit of competition, but also opens further educational opportunities for young athletes.
“We hope that this championship can be the first step for the younger generation to dare to dream of being part of UGM. By setting foot on this campus, they can be more motivated to achieve higher education,” said Anindya.
This activity was successfully organized thanks to the support of various parties, ranging from fellow students, alumni, to the warriors of Perisai Diri. Not to forget, the important role of the DIY Regional Perisai Diri Committee and the Perisai Diri Central Committee in providing guidance during the preparation process contributed greatly to the success of the event.
In addition, this activity also brought inspirational messages to the participants and the pencak silat community. Pencak Silat Perisai Diri UGM hopes PGC 2024 can be a forum to increase the confidence of the younger generation in dreaming and achieving their goals.
“We want to provide an unforgettable experience for the participants. It’s not just about winning the game, but also about nurturing courage and fighting spirit for their future,” Anindya added.
As the host, Pencak Silat Perisai Diri UGM showed its strategic role in developing pencak silat among the younger generation. The success of organizing PGC 2024 is a clear proof of their commitment in advancing this Indonesian traditional sport.
PGC 2024 is not just a pencak silat competition, but also a big step in supporting the development of the potential of Indonesia’s young generation. With the spirit of sportsmanship and high ideals, young athletes are expected to take valuable lessons from this event. Hopefully, activities such as the Perisai Diri Gadjah Mada Championship will continue to be an inspiration and momentum to encourage sports achievements as well as the education of the nation’s next generation.
