Yogyakarta, September 7, 2024 – Universitas Gadjah Mada successfully concluded Gamacup 2024, an annual volleyball tournament that brings together the best intercollegiate teams throughout Indonesia. The volleyball tournament, which lasted for seven days, became a stage for fierce competition among young athletes in competing for the title in the men’s and women’s categories.
This year, Gamacup was attended by 44 of the best volleyball teams from 32 colleges across Indonesia. Carrying the big theme of Dharmamigena Gantari, Gamacup 2024 carries a vision to awaken the fiery fighting spirit of the athletes and can be a light and energy booster during the tournament.
The closing ceremony of Gamacup 2024 began with remarks and reports by the General Coordinator regarding the course of the event which took place for 7 consecutive days. Also, remarks from the UGM Volleyball Student Activity Unit supervisor highlighted the importance of this tournament in fostering the spirit of sportsmanship and togetherness between students. “Gamacup is a venue for the development of athletic potential among students at the national level which certainly provides valuable experience and superior values for the contingents”, concluded the Head of Sub-Directorate of Organization, Facilities, and Student Welfare, Desi Yulianti, S.E., M.Acc.
The announcement of the male and female category winners was the most awaited moment. The women’s team from Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung won the champion title after a fierce battle against Universitas Slamet Riyadi Surakarta. Meanwhile, in the men’s category, the team from the Sekolah Tinggi Intelijen Negara excelled with a landslide victory against Universitas Nusa Megarkencana and managed to secure the champion title.
Not only that, the match for third place also presented a tournament that was no less impressive. In the women’s category, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta won a dramatic 5-set match against Universitas Nusa Megarkencana, while in the men’s category, Universitas Galuh secured third place with a solid win against the Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan PGRI Pacitan.
In addition to the awards for all the winning teams, Gamacup 2024 also gave appreciation to the best players who had competed. The title of Most Valuable Player in the women’s category was won by Galuh Panggalih from Universitas Islam Negeri Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung who displayed brilliant performance throughout the tournament. Likewise, Luvi Febrian from Sekolah Tinggi Intelijen Negara was named Most Valuable Player in the men’s category with his extraordinary abilities that managed to amaze the audience.
With the end of Gamacup 2024, Universitas Gadjah Mada reaffirms its commitment in supporting the development of student sports talents in Indonesia. Hopefully, this tournament will continue to be a prestigious event that spurs the competitive spirit and friendship between students throughout Indonesia.
