The Rector Cup UGM VI National Table Tennis Tournament which took place on September 13-15, 2024 at GOR Pancasila UGM has been successfully held. This prestigious event attracted 350 participants from all over the country, ranging from young athletes, students, to senior athletes.
With a variety of age ranges from 8 to 65 years old, this tournament is a proving ground for table tennis enthusiasts to hone their skills and to attain achievements. In addition, the Rector Cup UGM VI is also a place for young athletes to feel the real atmosphere of competition. The success of Rector Cup UGM VI cannot be separated from the extraordinary enthusiasm of the participants. As many as 47 universities from various regions in Indonesia participated in this event. This shows that table tennis is increasingly in demand among students.
The main purpose of this event is to increase the branding of UGM and Table Tennis Student Activity Unit, as well as to provide opportunities for young athletes to develop their potential and experience.
“Hopefully, the Rector Cup UGM VI can be a motivation for other table tennis events as there are many table tennis athletes and they must be accommodated. Therefore, hopefully other universities can facilitate Indonesian athletes,” said Sulthon Faizi, Chairman of UGM Table Tennis Student Activity Unit.
In addition, this tournament also aims to provide opportunities for young athletes to hone their skills and feel the real atmosphere of competition. Thus, it is hoped that new table tennis athletes will emerge who can make the nation proud.
Rector Cup UGM VI has been successfully held and made a positive contribution to the development of table tennis in Indonesia. This tournament is not only a competition event, but also a place to strengthen the relationship between athletes and promote table tennis to the wider community. UGM Table Tennis UKM hopes that the Rector Cup UGM VI can become a routine agenda that is held every two years. Thus, this tournament can continue to be a forum for table tennis enthusiasts to channel their talents and interests.
