Gadjah Mada Building and Bridge Community (GMBB) has been crowned the winner of the International BIM Innovation Competition (IBIC) in the Civil Engineering Innovation Contest (CEIC). IBIC is an international competition for all students from tertiary institutions that provides the opportunity to develop a better understanding of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) concept. The idea was to get students to compete in creating an 11-story building model with an area of 18,000 m² using Building Information Modeling (BIM) which includes building modeling (architectural, structural, MEP), structural analysis, material volume calculations, and cost budgeting calculations.

Gadjah Mada University’s SEMAR Community achieved two titles at the Autonomous Programming Competition 2023 by winning 1st place for SEMAR Proto UGM and 3rd place for SEMAR Urban UGM. In this competition, students from different parts of the world competed to create a self-driving car control program (Autonomous Vehicle) from a vehicle to reach maximum efficiency. This competition was held to hone students’ skills in building path-planning algorithms, vehicle control, and vehicle perception. ROS (Robotic Operating System) was used in this competition as an environment to communicate with vehicles through the algorithm designed. The assessed aspect in this year’s competition was the mileage (km/kWh), which is an efficient indication of the vehicle. The higher the mileage value, the more efficient the car is to drive. During the testing, the committee would run the algorithm that has been designed via a server. Other cars would then appear randomly, and the designed car program must be able to avoid collisions with these other cars. The cars also should neither exceed a certain speed limit nor violate traffic signs.
The UGM MTQ contingent has recorded another achievement in various categories at The UNY National Student MTQ 2023 (MTQMN UNY #3 2023) that was held by the State University of Yogyakarta. This competition was carried out online starting from March to April. There were 12 categories competed, namely Quran Recitation Musabaqa (Men/Women) [MTQ], Quran Tajweed Musabaqa (Men/Women) [MTarQ], Quran Memorization Musabaqa (10 Juz, 20 Juz) [MHQ], Quran Knowledge Musabaqa [MFQ], Quran Syarhil Musabaqa [MSQ], Quranic Art Musabaqa (Contemporer / Decoration) [MKQ], Quran Scientific Writing Musabaqa [MKTIQ], Quran Application Design Musabaqa [MDAQ], Quranic Content English Debate Musabaqa [MDI], Nasheed Musabaqa [MN], Salawat on Prophet Recitation Musabaqa [MPSN], and Adhan Musabaqa [MA].
UGM Model United Nations (MUN) Community has won six awards at the national and international Model United Nations conferences. These awards were gained through the participation of UGM MUN Community delegations at Nanyang Technology University Model United Nations 2023 (NTU MUN 2023) conference which was held in Singapore, as well as Makassar Model United Nations 2023 (Makassar MUN 2023) conference. After over three months of preparation and competing with participants from various institutions and countries, NTU MUN 2023 delegations won two international awards, while Makassar MUN 2023 delegations managed to sweep four national awards concurrently.
This year, UGM MUN Community sent three delegates to NTU MUN 2023. The delegation led by Christansya Eliora Manossoh (Faculty of Economics and Business 2022) that consisted of Muhammad Alfi Ramadhan (Faculty Of Mathematics And Natural Science 2021) and Najwa Waqiah (Faculty of Economics and Business 2022) has made every effort at the conference organized by Nanyang Technological University. The preparation carried out for over three months certainly lived up to their expectations. The Verbal Commendation award was successfully received by Christansya as the delegate of Iran for the Economic and Financial Affairs Council. Najwa, on the other hand, received the Best Position Paper as the delegate of Egypt for the UN Women’s Council. Achieving these international awards at the beginning of the year is obviously praiseworthy. Nevertheless, their achievements cannot be separated from the support they have received from various parties. Apart from the delegation participating as participants, several other members also participated as chairs or judges in this conference, namely Gianina Edella (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2019) and Leonard Patrick Bromokusumo (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2020).
Along with NTU MUN 2023, UGM MUN Community also sent a delegation of 10 people to Makassar MUN 2023 which was held online by Hasanuddin University. The delegation consisted of Muhammad Rafi Prawira Gandana (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2021), Ahmad Faris Darmawan (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2022), Asma Ningrum Abdurrahman (Faculty of Psychology 2022), Falah Mar’ie Amanullah (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2022), Fideline Abbygail Zefanya (Faculty of Law 2022), Lamtiar Nauli Sabrina Margareth Nababan (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2022), Meysyah Dwi Nastiya (Faculty of Cultural Sciences 2022), Teresa Gaia Sebayang (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2022), Muhammad Farkhan (Faculty of Law 2021) and Muhammad Riefky Fahreza (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences 2021). Each of the delegations spared no effort during the preparation period starting from conducting research to practicing speech delivery. They eventually succeeded in achieving four awards, namely the Best Delegate that was received by Asma as the delegate of Belgium for the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund; the Honorable Mention that was received by Eca and Lamtiar for the United Nations Security Council; the Verbal Commendation that was received by Faris and Rafi for the United Nations Security Council; and the Honorable Mention that was received by Riefky for the International Labor Organization.
By having breakthrough achievements at the beginning of the new management period, UGM MUN Community is confident in producing more achievements for the rest of this year. Several plans are mapped out to continue to develop the capabilities of each member and delegate to be later sent as representatives of the UGM MUN Community in many other MUN conferences.
