UGM Taekwondo athletes once again made their mark on the national stage by claiming two silver medals at the 7th National Taekwondo Championship (Kejurnas) Kapolri Cup 2026. The championship was held from July 9 to 12, 2026, at the Indoor Stadium in South Tangerang, Banten, and attracted 2,098 athletes from across Indonesia, comprising participants from the general public as well as athletes affiliated with the Indonesian National Police (Polri). As one of the most prestigious Taekwondo championships in Indonesia, the Kapolri Cup serves both as a platform for athletic development and a venue for fostering sportsmanship, camaraderie, and national spirit through sport. Both silver medals were won by Yuki Shafa Maheswari, a student of the Information Technology study program, Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Engineering UGM, class of 2024, who delivered a consistent performance amid fierce competition from top athletes across Indonesia.

This achievement stands as a testament to the commitment of UGM’s Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM) in producing athletes who are not only technically competitive but also capable of performing at the national level. A structured training program and continuous mentorship form the foundation that enables UGM athletes to perform at their best across various prestigious competitions. Beyond the medals themselves, this success reflects the long-term development process consistently carried out by UGM’s Taekwondo UKM, from building fundamental techniques to cultivating the mental readiness required to compete on the national stage. The result is evident in the ability of UGM athletes to compete effectively even at championships attended by thousands of athletes from across the country.

The Chair of UGM’s Taekwondo UKM expressed hope that this achievement would become part of the unit’s long journey in producing nationally accomplished athletes. Emphasis was placed on the importance of the UKM’s consistency as a space that genuinely facilitates the development of students’ athletic potential, not merely as a formal organization, but as an ecosystem that truly nurtures a competitive spirit and builds athletes’ confidence. “My hope is that this UKM remains consistent in being a place that facilitates athletes who want to achieve at the national level,” said Yaseer. This sentiment underscores the broader vision of the UKM as a vehicle for sustainable athletic excellence within the university.

The accomplishments secured by UGM’s Taekwondo UKM at the 7th Kapolri Cup demonstrate that UGM students excel not only in academics but are also capable of achieving at the national level through sport. These results are expected to serve as motivation for all members of UGM’s Taekwondo UKM to continue training diligently and to raise the quality of their performance in future competitions. With the continued development of its coaching programs, UGM’s Taekwondo UKM remains committed to producing outstanding athletes who will bring pride to Universitas Gadjah Mada in national and international competitions to come.
