AIESEC in UGM once again hosted Global Village Summer Peak 2026 at Taman Budaya Embung Giwangan, Yogyakarta, on Saturday, 25 July 2026. Carrying the theme “Celestial Mosaic: A Universe of Cultures,” the international cultural festival invited hundreds of participants to explore cultural diversity from around the world while fostering the values of tolerance and global understanding. The event began with a Roll Dance, followed by the Exchange Participant Parade, where international participants showcased their traditional attire, before continuing with the opening remarks and an introduction to the Global Village and Global Volunteer programmes. The atmosphere grew even livelier with a performance of the local dance Niskala Dwipantara by BSO Sasoebah UGM before participants visited seven international booths featuring unique cultural experiences through traditional food, clothing, games, languages, and stories about everyday life in each represented country. Participants also wore batik as a way of appreciating and introducing Indonesian culture to the international delegates.
The celebration of cultural diversity continued through the International Performance session, featuring traditional dances, musical performances, and original acts by the Exchange Participants. Cross-cultural interaction was further strengthened during the Collaborative Space, where participants and Exchange Participants worked together to create artwork while exchanging stories about their cultures and daily lives, demonstrating that cultural differences can serve as a bridge rather than a barrier. At the end of the event, Singapore received the Best Booth award, while India was recognised as the Most Favourite Booth for its engaging cultural presentation and active interaction with visitors.
Global Village also served as a space for personal and leadership growth among the organizing committee. Sherlina, one of the Global Village Summer Peak 2026 committee members, shared her impressions from her first experience being involved in a large-scale event. “This is the first time I have been part of a large event committee, and Global Village has given me an incredible experience to grow. I hope that Global Village going forward can continue to build strong synergy so that the event runs more smoothly and creates an even greater impact,” she said.
For many participants, Global Village served as their first window to the world. Zaki, a new UGM student who discovered the event through social media, shared his motivation for joining. “Since the student orientation is still some time away, I decided to join Global Village to build connections, gain new experiences, and also to learn more about what cultures from different countries are really like,” he said. The enthusiasm of participants was further evidenced by the return of attendees who had also come to Global Village the previous year, reflecting that the festival has become an annual event that people look forward to for its consistently fresh themes and cultural experiences.
Through Global Village Summer Peak 2026, AIESEC in UGM hopes that more and more young Indonesians will develop a global outlook, come to appreciate diversity, and feel empowered to build connections with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. In line with AIESEC’s vision of developing youth leadership through cross-cultural experiences, Global Village is hoped to be more than just a cultural festival, it is hoped to be the first step in cultivating a generation capable of becoming bridges of collaboration in an increasingly diverse global society.
